Chapter 30 - The Livingstons

The Livingstons are important to the Fosters because of Jean Eloise Foster, who married Allen larue Foster, Sr.

Livingstons in York, Pennsylvania

John S. Livingston was born December 12, 1817, in York, Pennsylvania. On April 28, 1839, he married Elizabeth Coleman , who was born October 15, 1814, also in York, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Coleman died April 9, 1867, and John S. Livingston died December 29, 1907.

Killed by a Boxcar

George Henry Livingston, son of John S. Livingston and Elizabeth Coleman, was born in York, Pennsylvania, on August 20 (or 29), 1850. He was married in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, to Harriet Adelaide Shank , who was born July 20, 1853, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. George H. Livingston was killed by a “silent railroad boxcar” while working in Williamsport on June 18, 1902 and lies buried in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. Harriet Adelaide Shank died February 25, 1908, in Williamsport, PA, and lies buried in Jersey Shore, PA.

Harriet Adelaide Shank was the daughter of Edward Shank , born about 1827 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and his wife Catherine -----, born about 1831 (or 1815), also in Williamsport. Edward Shank died in 1874, and Catherine ----- died in 1882.

James Henry Livingston, son of George Henry Livingston and Harriet Adelaide Shank, was born October 17, 1877, in Ralston, Pennsylvania. In a ceremony conducted by Rev. Fosselman on September 15, 1908, he married Alice Irene Bird , (See Chapter 31) born February 7, 1886, in Ralston or Williamsport, PA. Their children were James William Livingston (see below) and Charlotte Catherine Livingston (see below) . James Henry Livingston died December 16, 1945 in Williamsport, PA, and Alice Irene Bird died December 3, 1974.

Cathereine Charlotte Livingston , daughter of James Henry Livingston and Alice Irene Bird , was born April 6, 1909, in Williamsport, PA, and died May 23, 1988 in Williamsport, PA. She lies buried in Montoursville, PA.

James William Livingston, son of James Henry Livingston and Alice Irene Bird , was born December 31, 1911 or 1912. On November 18, 1933, James William Livingston married first Ruth Gladys Shoulder , who was born November 17, 1916, died September 10, 2000 in Williamsport, PA, and is buried in Montgomery, PA.) . James William Livingston married second Patricia ----- . For a time, James William Livingston also lived with Pauline Gardner Mitchell as her common-law husband. James William Livingston died March 31, 1974, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and lies buried in Montgomery, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.

Ruth Gladys Sholder (above) was the daughter of Charles William Sholder (born November 12, 1888) and Ida Amelia Engle (or Ida Lorson, born December 15, 1889). Charles William Sholder was the son of Daniel Sholder and Caroline Berry .

Jean Eloise Livingston, daughter of James William Livingston and Ruth Gladys Shoulder, was born January 31, 1934. She did not complete high school, taking a job in a restaurant instead until she married Allen Larue Foster Sr. (See Chapter 29) on May 8, 1952.
