The Last Will and Testament of Solomon Johnson is handwritten in a clear hand and recorded in Will Book A in the Probate Court in the Dooly County Couthouse in Vienna, Georgia.

The Last Will and Testament of Solomon Johnson

In the name of God Amen

I Solomon Johnson of said state and county being of advanced age and knowing that I must shortly depart from this world deem it right and proper both as respects myself and family that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind Providence has blessed me.  I therefore make this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and annulling all others heretofore made by me.

Item First  I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent and christian like manner suitable to my circumstances and condition my soul I trust shall return to rest with God who gave it as I hope for Eternal Salvation through the blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ whose Religion I have professed and as I humbly trust enjoyed for Fifty Years.

Item Second  I desire and direct that all my just debts be paid without delay by my Executors herein after named as I am unwilling my creditors should be delayed of their Rights especially as there is no necessity for delay.

Item Third  I give and devise to my beloved wife Sarah with whom I have lived in the strictest quiet and love for forty Six years and my daughter Elizabeth Johnson fifty acres of Land more or less it being the one fourth part of Lot number Nine in the first district of Dooly County and situated in the South Eastern corner of said lot of Land about twenty actes of which are cleared and in cultivation and all the rights members and appertenances to said parcel of Land in any wise appertaining or belonging to their own proper use & benefit during the natural life of both or either of them and after their death to belong to my Grand son Washington Solomon Johnson the only son of Elizabeth Johnson

Item Fourth  I give and bequeath to my wife Sarah in the same manner the farming utensils used on and belonging to said plantation of every description whatever and a horse and two cows and calves of her own choice with all my stock of hogs and sheep with all the provisions Corn fodder potatoes &c with my household and kitchen furniture belonging to said plantation all to be subject to her controll and at her disposal before her death at any time as she may think proper and the balance of my stock of Cattle to be sold by my Executor for the payment of my debts or other expences that may accrue

Item Fifth  I constitute and appoint my beloved sons Jonathan Johnson and Isaac Johnson Executors to this my last Will and Testament this September 9th 1847.

Present the Honorable Judge Alexander Meriwether Judge of said Court

Whereas the within Will of Solomon Johnson deceased being produced in open Court by Jonathan Johnson the Executor and proven by his own oath and the oath of Joshua Johnson one of the subscribing witnesses to the same who testifyed that he saw the Testator execute the within Instrument as his last Will and Testament that he signed the same as a witness and that George M. Duncan and Joshua B. Oliver did the same and that they did so in the presence of the Testator and of each other that the Testator was of sound mind and memory It is therefore Ordered that the same be admited to Record and that Letters Testamentary do issue to Jonathan Johnson in terms of the Law.
